Exploring the role of public relations in social media

The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) just announced the launch of its inaugural webinar, PR and Social Media. Using two (Canadian) case studies that “leverage blogging, wikis, YouTube, Flickr, del.icio.us and various online communities,” the session’s focus will be on the tactical side of social media, rather than theoretical concepts. Approached several weeks ago by Vancouver-based PR consultant, Carla Shore, APR (a member of the national professional development committee), I knew that the webinar was...

How can public relations improve the quality of decisions and accelerate their implementation?

If I had ten savvy CEO’s from the private, public and social sectors of the economy around a table and, at a certain point of our conversation, I asked them: ‘amongst the following three challenges you face today, which -in your opinion-is the one which deserves your priority attention?’ ……and the three challenges were: °identify, attract, retain and capitalize talent; °improve the quality of management decisions and accelerate their time of implementation; °effectively integrate the...

Is it too soon for the media to begin assigning blame? PR practitioners invited to weigh in with a vote

In its Daily ‘Dog section of the website, Bulldog Reporter (which bills itself as “The Leading Source of PR Views, News and Tools”) usually has a running “Pulse of PR” spot poll. Often time the results are interesting and relatively useful from a “trends” perspective. Given the glut of information (from many mediums) and opinion over the past week, the most recent one seems particularly timely. Do you think it’s too soon for the media...

Blogging from Vilnius on black pr. A really freezing shower for all of us!

The only thing that I regret is not having been able to understand (because of the lack of an english translation) of three and one half presentations (out of nine!) which unfortunately were in the Russian language (the Russian one of course, Belarus, Polish and half of the Latvian one). However the ones I was able to understand (English, Italian, Lithuanian, Ukrainan and German one) were well worth it.

“Digital tusks” enhance “quality writing” reach to thought leaders on politics, economy, arts and tech coverage

My Media in Canada subscription hit the in-box this a.m., with a lead article cleverly called “The Walrus adds digital tusks.” Having taken out a (print) subscription to The Walrus this past fall during the Word on the Street festival in Toronto—and being very pleased indeed with the quality and breadth of the publication and writers, I’m equally happy to hear the publisher is raising the social media bar and general reach, by introducing new...

Measuring Social Media: a post from Frank Ovaitt, President of the Institute for Public Relations

“A new blog is created about once every two seconds. New videos are posted to YouTube even more frequently. Virtually everyone with a computer (98%) goes on line to search for information before making a purchase. Video search is taking over text search as the most popular form of searching. Politicians, marketers, and individuals are embracing new forms of social networking…at unprecedented levels.”

Here we go to phase two. From tonisblog.com to prconversations.com, a collaborative blog with six initial heavyweights from as many countries.

My friends, when you feel ‘cornered’ there are at least two ways to react: step back or accelerate. I am happy to inform you that I have decided to accelerate, and from the day after tomorrow (Sunday, April 15, Italian time) this blog will have exhausted its function and will move on to a cooperative blog under the new url www.prconversations.com , where I will be joined, initially by five other regular contributors from as...
